If you are staying on the island of Tholen, you should not forget a visit to the Meestoof. After all, the present gets more colourful when you have an eye for the past.
In this museum, you will learn more about old crafts, the cultivation of madder and the traditional costume that was worn on the island of Tholen until the 1960s. In one of the outbuildings, you will find a school class as it looked in 1910. But perhaps the Reimerswaal collection is the most special of the museum. On the Oyster Dam, about 3 kilometres from Tholen, was the medieval town of Reimerswaal, the only drowned town outside the dikes in the world! Excavations and more information about this drowned city can be found in Sint Annaland at Bierensstraat 6.
