Since 1950, the museum has been housed in the Scottish Houses on the Kaai. Once built by Scottish merchants. But it was the English Alma Oakes we can call the founder of the Museum Veere. She lived here with her father for decades in the 1920s. At the time, the Scottish Houses were a lively meeting place for artists, writers and art lovers. Father and daughter collected paintings, antique furniture, porcelain, ship models and regional costume. Part of their collection can still be seen at the museum today. The museum’s collection includes the unique 16th-century City Hall statues of Veere and Maximilian’s famous gilded cup. A nice thing about this museum is that they spend a lot of time on temporary exhibitions such as The Whaling Voyage and the traditional Ring Sign.
