One striking family, 2 growing specialities and 3 brothers making up the 4th generation. These could be the ingredients of a good book. In reality, Jean, Jurrie and Gerrie write their chapters together in the family bible. This one is at least 100 years old, and to hear the men talk, they have ideas enough for another 100 years.
Since 2000, the brothers have taken the helm of the family business. Not naturally because they first expanded their knowledge and worldview in other professions or businesses. But the call of the Eastern Scheldt was too strong. It brought the brothers back to their base and each from their own specialism picked up the gauntlet.
Gerrie focused on mussel farming, Jean (1st photo) on oysters and commercial activities and Jurrie on finance and exports. But also a tasting room and even a shop.
In 2019, Jean was named Zeeland’s Most Outstanding Entrepreneur. Deeply deserved as we now know that he is widely respected and praised by colleagues. But even star chefs at home and abroad now know where to find the Oesterij. With the Dutch Imperial brand, they are conquering the world so that you can eat Zeeland oysters even in Dubai, Singapore and Hong Kong.
The tasting room is a lovely restaurant for lunch or drinks. It’s all about the source experience here. After all, close to the source, the delicacy tastes even more intense. And you can’t get oysters, mussels or lobsters any fresher. We can assure you that eating at the oyster farm makes an impression. Everyone is welcome to taste, which is why we do not take reservations. On one of the picnic benches, you can enjoy steamed, raw or gratinated shellfish. They are served with soup, bread and the tastiest wines. Daily from 10:00-18:00, you are welcome to enter the world of oysters.
