One of the most beautiful spots in Zierikzee is home to De Zeeuwse Schatkamer. Hans and Tanya run their sushi restaurant here with great passion.
For years, they have flown around the world together, always finding new, scents, colours and flavours. Even in the 1980s when Sushi was only slowly becoming known to the general public, Hans and Tanya were already aficionados. Wherever they went in the world, they would always look for a restaurant with Sushi on the menu.
Although Hans completed his chef training, he found great satisfaction in the butcher’s trade, and after that too, every step of his career has revolved around high-quality food. Tanya started her career as a physiotherapist but she eventually had to conclude that the top end of the catering industry gave her more pleasure and satisfaction.
When two people are passionate about delicious and high-quality food and also have complementary qualities, it becomes increasingly logical to join forces. Along with their other desire to raise their two children in a more rural setting, it was time for a good plan. And that good plan came. Not long after, they instantly fell in love with a very special spot on Zierikzee harbour. It led to the opening of De Zeeuwse Schatkamer. What an appropriate name for all the ideas, dreams and opportunities that could be given space here.
It started with a shop in cookware and workshops in Sushi making. But there was also room for booking a high tea or a painting workshop. In this, Tanya is the creative brain who likes to think in concepts. Hans in turn takes care of the business interpretation.
Everything was going according to plan but then… came corona… All the ideas and concepts had to be re-examined and tested against regulations no one had ever thought possible. After the necessary brainstorming sessions and headaches about ongoing costs, a new concept emerged: Take Away Sushi! Almost immediately a roaring success. And so in the port of Zierikzee, all the stops were pulled out to put together a menu and train staff to keep up with demand.
Fortunately, Corona now seems very far away again. With that, the workshops are back and space has been made for the sushi restaurant. But Sushi Take Away has remained and still delivers throughout Schouwen-Duiveland. They make a lot of people happy with that because the Sushi from De Zeeuwse Schatkamer has since been voted the best Sushi in Zeeland.

Because there at that beautiful spot at the head of the harbour, the water never stands still and there is always a different wind blowing that brings new ideas.
