Pancakes & Bubbles! It is possible in Burgh-Haamstede! What started as a traditional business in 1978 has now grown into a genuine pancake hotspot. At the helm is Marius Landegent and his wife Kiki. After Marius’ parents officially handed over the restaurant in 2020, many homemade products have been added and it has long since ceased to be a party for children only.
No coincidence as Marius has a culinary background. He did higher hotel school in Belgium and then did internships at prestigious restaurants. He then worked as a chef at a 5-star resort in America. This even allowed him to cook for Dick Cheney (vice-president of the United States 2001-2009) once. Smiling, he looks back on a time that taught and inspired him an incredible amount. But so far away from home, you also learn to appreciate your roots. He has come to appreciate Schouwen-Duivenland perhaps more than ever. Just like the local products and the age-old craft of being a miller. With a backpack full of acquired knowledge and experience, he returned to the family business Pannekoekenmolen De Graanhalm.
Brewing his own beer, making jams but also ice cream, advocaat, sweets, liqueur and lemonades. These are just a few of the large range of home-made products that Marius now makes. All products are sold in the picturesque souvenir shop. This is located in the beautiful 1847 corn and saw mill. Here, Zeeland’s Vlegeltarwe is ground into flour for the pancakes served daily. A wonderful sight to see the mill in operation! The Landegent family even has ambitions to generate their own electricity with the traditional mill. “Doing business as fresh and as green as possible” is the motto. After all, they have been doing sustainable business here for years. Not for nothing do you find syrup on the table in glass pouring bottles. A monk’s work to clean every day but it saves a huge mountain of waste, Marius knows.
Of course, this pancake mill has a huge attraction for children. You only have to look at the playground next to the mill and you know that children become very happy with this place. What is less obvious is that there is also a terrace here in the lee of the play area. Here, adults can enjoy a little more peace and quiet and even order a glass of champagne or ZZeeuwse ZZagria. Marius says enthusiastically that his guests can appreciate this and, as a result, there is now a wider audience that feels at home at Pannekoekenmolen De Graanhalm. And that this sometimes results in queues is hard to avoid because there is no need to make reservations here. Marius and Kiki and their team work passionately 7 days a week (12:00-20:00) to ensure that they bake the very best pancakes in Zeeland.
All in all, a special restaurant with special entrepreneurs who absolutely deserve their place at Exclusief Zeeland in the list of most special restaurants in Zeeland!
